In Room 2 we have homework every night. We feel that homework should be fun but that we should also be practising our learning at the same time.
Every night we have reading homework. We select a book from our fluency box every day from Monday to Friday. Sometimes our teacher gives us the instructional reader that we have read for further challenging reading. We take the selected book home, read it to our parents/caregivers, and then we ask them to sign our home books to show that we have read our book. We need to bring our home book to school every day to show that we are doing our learning.
The Spelling Programme in Room 2
In Room 2 we have spelling words to learn every night as well as reading. The spelling is individualised and that means that we all have different words to learn. We write them into our homebooks in the middle of the week, and then we have a week to learn them. We have to learn them every night and then get our parents/caregivers to sign them after we have learnt them.
We are tested on the essential spelling list words periodically. This is where our spelling words to learn come from. They are the words which we did not know how to spell in our spelling test.
If we wish to learn more than the words we are given, then we can use the words listed here from Essential Lists 1 to 6 (only if we are in the Smarties reading group. The rest of us can choose words from our topic study or unknown words from our writing).
These words are available for students to learn for their spelling homework. These are the words which are used most often in writing.
